A 16-year-old boy used a shotgun to defend his mother from three would-be burglars in Monte Alto early Saturday morning, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
...
About 1:45 a.m., with the shotgun in hand, the boy confronted the three strangers who approached and told them to leave. Instead, they shot at him, and he fired back, hitting one in the leg. |

| If they outnumber you, and they are armed, threatening them with a gun might not be my first choice. |

@mickey: In this situation, confronting them with my own weapon is the first and only choice? Do you have another viable suggestion? Didn't think so.
@kajunkkritter: According to the story. I believe they were outside the home but on the property. |

jk: should have read the article before opening my mouth, I though they had broken in.
You may also have misunderstood me. I wouldn't want to threaten to shoot multiple perps, and that goes double for armed perps. If it gets that far, I'd rather shoot them than threaten them. I'm not a cop and it's not my job to arrest armed criminals in my own home.
When you confront them with a gun, you're saying, in effect, "surrender or kill me". And that's a choice I'd rather not offer if I can avoid it. |
